Colorado Trail To Peaks Trail
The trail starts just opposite the parking area and continues through an alternating landscape of sagebrush meadows and lodgepole forest. The trail appears to end at a confusing three-way logging road intersection at mile 1.0, but actually it bears to the left (southwest) from this intersection. The CT steadily gains elevation in a lodgepole forest, bearing generally south to south-southwest, then takes a more westerly direction before it crosses a logging road at mile 1.6. Continue 700 feet uphill, then bear right (north) as the trail joins another old road. Go right (north) at the intersection with another old road at mile 1.9. Continue 200 feet further to a clear-cut. Proceed north across the clear-cut on a short section of connector trail. In a few hundred feet, you will pick up the old road again in the forest at the opposite edge of the clear-cut. Go left (west) as the road forks again in another 250 feet. The road leads generally west and slowly takes on a more trail-like character as it ascends to a somewhat rounded, rocky summit at mile 2.3. A sparse lodgepole forest allows glimpses of the crest of Tenmile Peak to the west. Descend 0.4 miles from the rocky summit and cross the last logging road. At mile 3.2 you join up with the Peaks Trail. Go right (north) on the Peaks Trail and follow it to Frisco. At Frisco, we’ll have the option to return the way we came, or take the paved bike path from Frisco back to the trailhead.
